The list of topDentists is based on a peer-review survey in which hundreds of dentists and specialists throughout the Charlotte area cast their vote on the abilities of other dentists and specialists. These listings cannot be purchased, so the inclusion on this list is considered a very high honor.
We are so excited for Drs. Starr and Dickens to be honored by their peers in Charlotte Magazine. Help us in congratulating our doctors on this great accomplishment!
Starr Orthodontics is excited to announce that we recently became a chapter of Smile for a Lifetime, a Colorado-based national nonprofit that partners with doctors to offer free orthodontic procedures, like braces, to people who need them. This local Matthews chapter will serve low-income residents in Matthews, Mint Hill and Union County, NC.
The chapter will focus on serving patients 18 and younger, and includes a board of volunteers who will screen and select patients based on photos of their smile and an online application. The chapter is required to select at least six patients a year to receive free treatment, but Drs. Garry Starr and Steven Dickens hope to at least double that effort.
“We’ve taken on patients (for free) in the past, but this will be a mechanism to identify them in the community and get the care to people who really need it,” Dr. Starr said. “When you have a beautiful smile, that’s a real boost to self-esteem and can be life-changing for a child.”

Here in Charlotte, NC kids and parents are beginning to stock up on pencils, spiral notebooks, and binders because it’s back to school time! To better accommodate the changing schedules of our patients, Dr. Starr and Dr. Dickens are introducing new school year office hours. Because it is more challenging to work around school, sports, and after school activities, we want to remind our patients about how important it is to plan in advance for your orthodontic appointments. Also, to best serve all our patients we ask that you please give us advance notice if you are unable to make an appointment, so that someone else has the opportunity!
The fall hours for Starr Orthodontics are as follows:
• Monday: 8am-5pm
• Tuesday: 8am-5pm
• Wednesday: 8am-5pm
• Thursday: 7am-4pm
